There are several kinds of competition held during the season
League Meetings
These are team events that Telford AC competes for points against other Midland teams. Team Managers select the squad so you should speak to them if you want to be considered
Open Meetings
These are events where individual athletes enter themselves and pay the entry cost. Medals are sometimes presented at these meetings so check in case you have come in top 3
School Championships
Held in June and athletes are entered by their school and compete for the School and not Telford AC. Athletes should speak to the PE Dept about entering. If they get no joy then please speak to the club and we will get you entered. You can only enter 2 events
County Championships
Held in May over 2 days. Athletes enter individually and pay per event. Athletes who perform well at these Champs can sometimes be selected to compete for Shropshire in Intercounty matches like Masons Trophy
Regional Championships
Different Age Groups held at different times during the summer. Athletes enter individually but there are eligibility criteria such as qualifying times so you will need to check before entry
Please check the Telford AC fixture list for dates of events
Other events for athletes to enter can be found on https://entry4sports.co.uk
Details on how to enter can be found on this website as well
Telford AC compete in the following leagues during the season
Shropshire Young Athletes (U11/U13/U15/U17)
YDL Lower Age (U13/U15)
YDL Upper Age (U17/U20)
Midland Senior League (U17 and Above)
Midland Masters League (aged 35 and above)
Please contact Team Managers if you wish to be considered for selection in the Telford Team
Teams can only enter 2 athletes per event in League Meetings and each athlete has a maximum number of events they can compete in at each meeting based on their age
At some of the league meetings there are Guest races so please speak to the Team Manager if you fancy competing in these so they can get you a guest number. You should not run in Telford team number. You should ask them when you arrive. No points are given to guest events as they are purely to give athletes another chance to compete.
Each club gain points based on the finishing position of the athlete so it is always advantageous to have 2 athletes in the event as 1 point is better than zero points.
At league events there is also the chance for Telford to enter a relay team in the age groups competing for extra points. This can be an exciting end to the meeting and can make a difference in the point scores. If you want to be in the relay team let the team manager know.
Clubs also gain points by providing a team of officials and parent helpers to help the meeting run safely. If a club do not supply officials points can be deducted so please consider offering your help as racking a long jump pit or collecting the throwing implements as this can gain valuable points.
Midland Senior League works similar to football leagues so there are promotions and relegations from each Division
