Gemma Weetman of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College has been named as the team
captain of the Shropshire Schools Track and Field Team for the 76th English
Schools Track and Field Championships being held at Gateshead International
Stadium on the 7th and 8th July.The 25 strong team. Gemma and Helen Martin
are the only 2 girls still in the team from the senior girls squad that won
the Gosling Trophy for the best Group C senior girls team at last years
championships.They are joined by Cherelle Jones in the 100m, Charlotte
Roberts, 400m hurdles and Emma Pullen 200m, Shropshire have also entered a
senior girls relay team.
Midland Champion Bethan Partridge of Oldbury Wells School is the first in
action as she competes in the intermediate girls high jump at 10 am on
Friday morning whilst Ben Richards, Marches School in the junior boys shot
and Steven Ridgway, Telford College in the senior boys high jump conclude
the championships at 2.25 on Saturday afternoon. Sam Tough, Adams, Newport
and Amelia Reynolds, Thomas Telford, winners of the Bristow Awards at the
recent County Championships take part in the intermediate boys discus and
junior girls shot respectively, both events that they competed in last year
in the same age groups.
